HOME: This exhibition examines the many dimensions of home—its warmth and comfort, as well as its complexity and contradictions. Submissions may explore the physical structure of a home, the landscapes that define or surround it, or the people and faces that give it meaning.
As presented here, Home may be understood as a place, a feeling, or a memory. It is the artist’s interpretation.
Artists words about their Home submissions:
Heather Cain: My pieces are my interpretations of “what is home”, “what home offers”, & “how home feels”.
Amanda Statsny: For many people, the home garden is an essential aspect of life, providing food, leisure, and a connection to the natural world. The garden also provides critical habitat (home) to many animals including butterflies and bees.
Chellie Tedmon: Home is a feeling not a place.
Kathleen Van Lieu: I love the Sandhills. I feel excited yet deeply peaceful in those surroundings, the same way I felt when surrounded the ocean.
Garrett Lane: Each piece represents a physical sense of home with a tone and color shift to warmth, while still adding a sense of abstract or a ethereal feeling.
Max Newby: Home is really an interpretation, just like most words, but not really… Everyone’s experience with home is different, and in this instance, there’s pure chaos. Does the chaos of her dreams represent the events of home? Or is there within her own home where she can shell away from the world. I believe this is how my work interprets the theme “Home”.
Lou Schuerman: I hope with these pieces to ignite a feeling or memory of what home embodies: warmth, comfort, but also its complexity and occasional confusion.
Deanna Etherington: My work embodies the theme of home as love, heritage, and way of life.
Kathleen Fiscus: The essence of home being a place of renewal, relaxing, and recharging is expanded by the enjoyment of an outdoor space. Fresh air, beautiful landscaping, and a place to sit and reflect augments the enjoyment of a Home. Memories are made when songbirds welcome you to the backyard and squirrels scamper from tree to tree.
Nicole Dittus: The watercolor mixed media artwork depicts items you might find walking the field at home
Kelli Sweet: Home to me is a place of sanctuary. It can be a physical structure or an open place. I am honored to share my father’s home as the creative representation for this show at Cali Commons. My father was a man of the prairie and loved where he came from and the people that surrounded him.
